Overview

Cameroon Kribi Sea Port

Kribi Deep Sea Port, at Mboro about 35 km south of Kribi town, opened to commercial traffic in 2018 and is the only port in Cameroon that takes deep-draft vessels. It was built on a naturally deep stretch of the Atlantic coast, so there is no dredged channel and no tidal window: ships berth and sail on schedule, and the 16 m depth alongside handles the container and bulk tonnage that cannot enter the Wouri estuary at Douala. The Port Autonome de Kribi (PAK) is the port authority; the container terminal and the multipurpose terminal are run by private concession operators, and the port works around the clock.

The terminals handle containers (including transhipment for the Gulf of Guinea), general and project cargo, bulk minerals and timber, and the port serves the offshore oil and gas installations along this coast: the Kome-Kribi 1 FSO that loads Chad–Cameroon pipeline crude, and the Hilli Episeyo floating LNG unit moored off Kribi. A second development phase is extending the quays and the industrial zone behind the port.

For in-water work, Kribi is the best site in Cameroon. The water is clear, visibility is good and there is no tide to plan around, which is why we recommend it for class in-water surveys (UWILD), CCTV hull inspections and any job the surveyor wants to watch on screen. Our divers, supervisors and equipment are based in the country; most of our Cameroon diving work is done at Kribi, alongside during cargo operations, and the same agency desk that covers Douala handles port formalities, crew and supplies here.

Good to know

Salt water and an open coast: apply your sea-water draft directly, and expect a swell on exposed days rather than a tidal constraint. Berth allocation and any temporary restriction come from the PAK harbour master and the terminal operator; your agent confirms them before arrival.

Cameroon Diving Services

24/7 on call

The terminals work continuously and there is no tide to wait for, so a call at Kribi is planned to the hour. Our divers are on site for most of the week; in-water work is scheduled inside the cargo window and documented on CCTV in clear water.

Airport to port

≈ 200 km · 3–4 h

Douala International Airport (DLA)

Kribi has no commercial airport. Crew and superintendents fly into Douala (DLA) and travel south by road, about 200 km and three to four hours; Yaoundé (NSI) is a similar distance. Kribi town, 35 km north of the port, has hotels used by offshore crews. We arrange the airport meet, road transfers, immigration and hotel bookings as part of a crew change or a survey visit.

Public holidays

Public holidays at the port

National public holidays apply at Kribi as at every Cameroon port. On the days marked “port closed” cargo operations stop from the evening before and resume the morning after; the other holidays are worked at holiday rates. Terminal operators publish the exact closure hours for each year — your agent confirms them with your ETA.
